Answering questions on the show’s official blog, he commented: “I’m really happy about it. They haven’t mistreated it in any way, though they’ve made it completely their own. They’ve taken bits from different episodes, moved storylines around and introduced new characters.
Set in Boston, the US version of BBC Three’s supernatural drama began on the SyFy channel last month, starring Sam Witwer (Battlestar Galactica), Meaghan Rath and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns).
Whithouse continued: “For me, it’s really exciting. I’m now watching Being Human as a fan. I don’t know what’s going to happen and that’s really thrilling. I have to say, at first I was watching it through my fingers but once I realized that this was a show made with just as much love and thought as we made our version, it was actually a really enjoyable experience.”
He added: “The other thing is, inevitably they have to tell the stories differently because their seasons are so much longer. If they were going to slavishly adhere to the UK version, they would run out halfway through the series.”
The third series of Being Human continues with Episode 4 at 9pm on Sunday 13th February on BBC Three.
