Tom Holland has unveiled the title for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, the sequel to his first solo outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is coming out July 5th 2019, which will make it the immediate follow-up to Avengers 4.
It was over on Instagram that Holland revealed the title, by showing the cover of a script on his iPad at the end of this video…
If you didn’t quite manage to catch that, allow us to fill you in: the title of Holland’s second Spidey movie appears to be Spider-Man: Far From Home. Or, at least, that’s the title written on the script that he’s looking at right now.
This title raises some interesting possibilities. Given that the film takes place after the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, is it possible that we’ll see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man stranded on an alien world at the end of Avengers 4 in order to tee up an extraterrestrial solo film that literally fits with the title Far From Home.
There are also alternate dimensions in the Spider-Man comic books, which Sony is exploring in an animated film called Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse later this year. Could Holland’s Spidey swing into a parallel universe in Far From Home that feels very far removed from his home dimension?
All we know for sure about Spider-Man: Far From Home is that Jon Watts is returning to direct it with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers – who also worked on Homecoming – penning the script. The villain is rumoured to be the special effect genius Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, with Jake Gyllenhaal linked with the role.
We’ll keep you updated as more Spider-Man: Far From Home news comes to light.
