But in the first things that we’ve seen of her, she’s very like, you know, which some fans have loved and some are a bit like, oh, she’s a bit abrasive, you know, but she’s not. That’s also a you know, things that we do to hide stuff.”

In her description of the new iteration of her costume, Martin said that the buttons on her costume are inspired by the TARDIS roundels. Along with new colour of fabric for her blouse, the inside of her hat is lined with Kente cloth, to honour her African heritage via Jamaica. Also inside the hat in small letters is “One love, two hearts,” a riff on Jamaican singer, songwriter, and guitarist Bob Marley’s song One Love. She also commented that her Doc Martin boots and buttoned up waistcoat give her a strong stance and posture.
