Elliot Stabler will return in his very own series…
The incredibly-named Dick Wolf has already got six series up and running at the moment, including Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, FBI and, FBI: Most Wanted, but another one couldn’t hurt, right? Well, no one objected when Wolf and co. decided Christopher Meloni’s former SVU character Elliot Stabler should get his very own spinoff show, but surely no one could blame them – the ever-popular SVU has 21 seasons in the can, and has been renewed for another three.
Filming is set to kick off in the next month on the new spinoff series – Law & Order: Organized Crime – and Meloni has reunited with his former (and future) Law & Order co-star Mariska Hargitay ahead of production getting underway:
Meloni’s new spinoff will begin with 13 original episodes, and will reportedly “follow Stabler as he heads up the organised crime division of the NYPD” according to Variety. It is also likely to feature a few crossovers with more of his old crew, in addition to Hargitay’s detective Olivia Benson.
Meloni originally left SVU in 2011 after season 12, and his character was written out as having decided to retire from the force, but the real reason Meloni left SVU was because contract negotiations with the show’s network broke down. Almost ten years later, it appears things have been worked out one way or another.
More on this as we get it.
