Legendary plans to revive three Irwin Allen shows

Star Trek writer Akiva Goldsman is developing ideas to bring the back catalogue of famed producer Irwin Allen to a modern audience.

Akiva Goldsman has been embedded in the Star Trek universe since its revival in 2017 with Discovery, coming to the franchise off the back of Fringe. He’s written, directed and executive produced on Picard and Strange New Worlds, co-creating the latter.

Goldsman also has an extensive list of movie screenwriting credits. He picked up an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind and his career stretches back to the mid-90s for Batman and Robin.

Now, Deadline report that he’s turning his attentions to the work of the late Irwin Allen, whose rights are held by Legendary Entertainment. Goldsman will work with Jon Jashni, who serves as executive producer on these projects, with Derek Thielges co-producing.

While Netflix brought us an updated version of Lost in Space from 2018 – 2021, Allen’s three other television series are set to be reimagined:

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea premiered in 1964, based on the film co-written by Allen and Charles Bennett. Across four seasons, it starred Richard Basehart as Admiral Harriman “Harry” Nelson, commander of the nuclear submarine Seaview.

The Time Tunnel

The Time Tunnel

The Time Tunnel was a 1966 adventure series which followed the exploits of two scientists who became trapped in time. Attempts were made to reboot the show in the 00s, but they didn’t get beyond the pilot stage. However, this year, Big Finish productions released a follow-on audio drama series.

Land of the Giants

Land of the Giants aired in 1968 and followed the sub-orbital space vehicle the Spindrift, whose crew was shrunk after getting caught up in a sandstorm. It ran for two years and was set in the futuristic 1983!

We’ll keep you posted on these potential Irwin Allen reboots.
