Misfits remake gets greenlight in America

The latest British TV show to get an American remake is to be Misfits, with the E4 show being picked up by Freeform in the US. It’s now ordered a pilot episode too, and the cast has begun to fall into place, reports Deadline.

Ashleigh LaThrop, Tre Hall, Allie MacDonald and Jake Connavale are taking four of the five lead roles, with one more yet to cast. They’ll be playing young offenders undertaking community service, when they’re caught in the midst of an electrical storm. Before you can say ‘Fantastic Four’, they find themselves with strange powers. The basic setup from the UK show, then.

One of the triumphs of the E4 series was that it stretched its tiny budget incredibly far. It’s a fair assumption that Freeform will be able to stump up more funds for effects work, but hopefully, it isn’t lost that it was the character and story work that really helped Misfits to shine.

Howard Overman, who created the show, is one of the executive producers on the remake, joined by Murray Ferguson on the British side. Diane Ruggiero-Wright, who has form with iZombie and Veronica Mars, has written the pilot episode. Victoria Mahoney will direct it.

The pilot should be completed this year.
