The Doctor Who star appears in the Oscar Wilde play at the National Theatre from November 2024.
With the Doctor back at Christmas and season 2 in the can, producers Bad Wolf are focussing on making the spin-off series The War Between the Land and the Sea.
According to recent comments from showrunner Russell T Davies, via SFX Magazine, Doctor Who‘s fate is unlikely to be confirmed until the second season has aired, probably next spring.
With a bit of a gap in his schedule, star Ncuti Gatwa has been keeping himself busy.
He’s in the cast of The Roses, a remake of the 80s film comedy-drama The Wars of the Roses. The new version stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Coleman, with Gatwa in the ensemble alongside and Jamie Demetriou, Kate McKinnion and Andy Samberg.
The Importance of Being Earnest
He also has an upcoming theatre role: Gatwa is set to appear in the National Theatre’s production of Oscar Wildes’s The Importance of Being Earnest from this November.
He’ll take the role of Algernon Moncrieff alongside Hugh Skinner (W1A) as Jack Worthing. The cast also features Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo (Alex Rider) Sharon D. Clarke (Doctor Who) and Eliza Scanlen (Dope Girls).
A Trivial Comedy for Serious People
Being sensible can be excessively boring. At least Jack thinks so.
While assuming the role of dutiful guardian in the country, he lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile, his friend Algy takes on a similar facade.
Unfortunately, living a double life has its drawbacks, especially when it comes to love. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate.
The show runs at the National Theatre on London’s Southbank from 20th November 2024 — 25th January 2025. Tickets are available now.
