The original The Avengers, telling the stories of John Steed and Emma Peel (amongst others) as they took on foes as 60s spies, is getting a brand new television reboot.
The Avengers (the non-spandex version!) has laid dormant since an unsuccessful attempt to take the series to the big screen in 1998, in a movie version starring Ralph Fiennes and Sean Connery. Now, though, Iron Man 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang writer/director Shane Black is overseeing a new TV version of The Avengers, teaming up with Fred Dekker to pen a pilot.
As he told Dark Side Magazine, Black’s plan is “it’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60s, and our approach is The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who”
Black is finishing up work on his next movie, The Predator, that’s due out this summer. It’s likely he’ll move onto The Avengers after that, although no casting for the new show has thus far been announced.
