The “dark and brooding” six-parter is coming to BBC Four and iPlayer.
Looking for your next Scandi noir obsession? The BBC have just acquired a show that might fit the bill – a Nordic drama with an Irish slant; North Sea Connection is a thriller which plays out on the West Coast of Ireland. The story is described as “a story of complex family dynamics set against a dramatic Irish landscape.”
Here’s the synopsis:
Ciara Kenny (Lydia McGuinness) fishes the waters off Roskillane as her family has done for generations. But when her ambitious brother Aidan (Kerr Logan) secretly agrees to carry out a drug run at sea for a Nordic cartel that goes horribly wrong, their lives are forever changed. As pressure from an investigation builds, threatening to unearth long-held secrets, how far will they go for the sake of the family?
Alongside Lydia McGuiness and Kerr Logan (Strike), the show stars Sinéad Cusack, Claes Ljungmark, Dónall Ó Héalai, Jeanne Nicole Ní Áinle (Bad Sisters), Alida Morberg and Natalie Simpson (Outlander).
Written by Mark Grieg (Marcella), the show is directed by Paul Murphy (Doctor Who) and Hannah Quinn (Vikings: Valhalla). It was made by Mopar Studios for RTÉ and Viaplay
