Percy Jackson and the Olympians – teaser trailer
Ahead of its December 20th debut, Disney+ have revealed our first proper look at Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The 8-part series is based on the character’s first literary outing, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and sees the young hero discover that the Greek gods are real, as well as his own familial connection to them.
The show stars Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) as Percy, with Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri playing his best friends Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood.
In the wider ensemble there are a number of notable names – Toby Stephens plays Poseidon, while the late Lance Reddick is Zeus. Also in the expansive cast are Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Jason Mantzoukas (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and the ever-present Lin-Manuel Miranda.
“The stories that I’ve told you about Greek gods and half-bloods. They are real.”
The teaser trailer speaks for itself pretty well. It sees Percy dragged into a world of gods and monsters when he discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and accused of stealing Zeus’s thunderbolt. We see his introduction to Camp Half-Blood and some action from the quest to clear his name.
This adaptation has the input of the character’s creator Rick Riordan who has co-written the first two episodes. He also serves as executive producer and has already made positive noises about a second season.
For more on the show, including some exclusive images, there’s a preview feature with (pre WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes) interviews at Entertainment Weekly.
Jackson and the Olympians lands at Disney+ on 20th December 2023 with a double premiere. Subsequent episodes will follow weekly.
