We haven’t seen season 2 yet, but the Percy Jackson and the Olympians forges ahead with season 3.
Television and film adaptations based on popular, even beloved, book series can be a tricky proposition. For every Harry Potter, there is a Percy Jackson.
However, while the film series wasn’t well received by its fanbase, its recent Disney+ adaptation has found its audience.
Interestingly, the boot may soon be on the other foot, as HBO hopes to replicate Percy Jackson’s small screen success for the Potter franchise.
With the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians lands on Disney+ in December, two years since the first, the streamer has already given the nod to season 3.
The third year of adventures will push beyond the movie series, adapting the events of Rick Riordan’s third novel. The Titan’s Curse sees Percy called to rescue his friend Annabeth, and the Greek goddess Artemis, from the clutches of the Titan Atlas.
Author Rick Riordan said:
“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+. This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time. It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”
With a teen cast, it makes sense that Disney+ would want to speed up the production cycle for fear of the cast aging out of their roles.
We’ll keep you posted on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. You can stream the first season from Disney+.
