A pair of Succession creatives will lead the action at Hogwarts.
Back in April 2023, it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery had plans to extend their dormant Harry Potter franchise into the world of television.
With talk of a decade of television, the apparent idea is to adapt the books into a series that’s more faithful than the movies were.
In January there was some progress, with reports of a number of writers submitting their pitches. Now, it’s been revealed that a pair of creatives have been chosen to take the series forward: Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod.
According to Deadline, Gardiner will take on the role of showrunner and executive producer. Meanwhile, Mylod will direct multiple episodes and be an executive producer too.
As well as her producing credits on Succession, Francesca Gardiner has worked on both His Dark Materials and Killing Eve. She’s also written for The Man in the High Castle and The Rook.
Mark Mylod directed 16 episodes of Succession and also has credits on The Last of Us and Game of Thrones. His career reaches back to the 1990s, where he worked on British comedy shows such as Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), The Fast Show and The Royle Family.
This new Harry Potter project is still in development but aimed at a 2026 release for HBO. We’ll keep you posted.
