He’s reached the ‘ghost’ phase of his career.
Peter Davison is one of those actors who’s rarely off our screens. Of late, he’s appeared in Gentleman Jack (as a crabby relative), The Larkins (as the gloriously seedy vicar) and The Gold as a senior Police Officer. He also has a role in the upcoming second season of Good Omens too.
Of course, he also reprised his Time Lord role in ‘The Power of the Doctor,’Doctor Who’s BBC Centennial Special. That saw Jodie Whittaker make way for David Tennant (again) who is leading the 60th Anniversary celebrations. Ultimately, however, the TARDIS will end up in the hands of Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th Doctor.
While that appearance was a sort of ghostly echo, his next role is a fully spectral. The Radio Times reports that Davison is playing the ghost of King William IV in the upcoming Coronation Special of Channel 4’s The Windsors.
Timed for the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the storyline will see Prince Wills (Hugh Skinner) asking the former monarch about his famously small coronation.
Davison, who’s apparently a fan of the Harry Enfield fronted show, said:
“I’m very pleased to be asked to appear in the coronation special, even if I am only an apparition. After many years going from playing vets, to doctors, to policemen, to vicars, and then barristers, I can see I’ve now reached the ‘ghost’ phase of my career – this is not necessarily a good sign, but it was a joy to do it.”
The Windsors Coronation Special will see Enfield’s King Charles seeking to have spectacular coronation, set against the country’s cost of living crisis. It airs on Sunday 30th April.
The Big Steam Adventure
That’s not the only place to catch Peter Davison at the moment. In more solid form, he’s also travelling Britain by steam power as part of a new Channel 5 series.
The actor has joined forces with journalist and presenter John Sergeant and steam enthusiast Paul ‘Piglet’ Middleton to traverse the country from London to Scotland using only the power of stream.
Their challenge involves any steam-means possible, including paddle boats, barges, steam cars, trains and traction engines.
The four-part series began on Tuesday 25th April and is available to stream on My5.
