A Pokémon live-action series is in the early stages of development for Netflix according to Variety
A recent report by Variety has Joe Henderson in the early stages of developing a Pokémon live-action series for Netflix. If this is the case, the Lucifer showrunner (and executive producer, who only just announced the Lucifer season 6 start date at SDCC 2021) is keeping busy. There’s no official comment from any parties involved.
Henderson is also developing a series adaptation of the comic book “Shadecraft” at Netflix, which was announced in March. Henderson penned the comic, working alongside artist Lee Garbett. Henderson is co-writing the pilot of that project with Georgia Lee, with both also executive producing. Garbett will produce. If the Pokémon report is correct (and we have no reason to suspect otherwise) we shall have to keep watch for any real details. Sources so far have only suggested the series will be developed along the lines of the 2019 film Detective Pikachu, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith. It’s a compelling fit, as the streamer already hosts several shows in the franchise.
Fans of Pokémon will know this year has been designated as Pokémon25 — a year of celebration for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary. An announcement for a new series seems in keeping with celebrations, which include artists such as Katy Perry, Post Malone and J Balvin.
As ever, we’ll keep you posted!
