The Game of Thrones star is in the frame as the next live-action Lara.
The last couple of years have seen a shot in the arm for the Tomb Raider franchise, with plans for an interconnected world of television, movies and games.
We’ve seen the first fruits of this with the recent anime series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, which saw Hayley Atwell take on the role as the voice of Lara. That’s already scored itself a second series.
Also in the works is a new live-action television series, from Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). Rumoured for a while, it was confirmed in May by Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Waller-Bridge is set to both write and executive the show.
Live-action Lara
In the past couple of weeks, a number of names have been in the frame for the lead role. According to Deadline however, Sophie Turner has won out and is now in negotiations to play Lara Croft.
While she achieved international fame as Sansa Stark, who survived Game of Thrones to become The Queen of the North, the actor has also begun to enjoy a wider career.
She recently took on the lead role of Joan Hannington in itv’s drama about the diamond thief. Turner also appeared in The Staircase and has a role in Prime Video’s forthcoming heist series Haven too. On the big screen, she’s played Jean Grey in a pair of X-Men movies.
If confirmed, Sophie Turner will follow Angelina Jolie and Alica Vikander in playing Lara Croft on screen. Whether she’ll keep the role for any future movie project however remains to be seen.
We’ll keep you posted as the show goes into production.
