Doctor Who fan discovers possible director/door connection

An alert Doctor Who fan discovered a door on director Edgar Wright’s Instagram which matches the doors shown on images released along with the announcement that Michelle Greenidge and Anita Dobson will appear in Doctor Who Series 14.

Wright was a rumoured Doctor Who director until he denied all speculation.

Wright posted a photo of a door strikingly similar to the doors in the publicity photos on his Instagram on 9 May, 2022.

It’s unclear how the door images are connected since, at the time the Wright’s door image was shared, Rachel Talalay was directing the first of three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials.

Greenidge and Dobson were spotted filming for Block One of Doctor Who Series 14 in Bristol on 20 January, 2023. Dylan Holmes Williams is currently directing Block One, which began filming on 5 December.

There are some door-filled alleyways in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary teaser trailer.

The door connection remains a mystery. It could be a recurring phenomenon or theme running throughout the three 60th anniversary specials and Series 14.

Edgar Wright’s involvement is also unclear. He’s not necessarily directing Doctor Who though Davies enthusiastically endorses the idea. He could have been granted a set tour of Wolf Studios where Doctor Who is filmed.

Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor. In the following festive period, Ncuti Gatwa will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as the Fifteenth Doctor.
