On December 25, 2022, a sixty-second trailer, publicity photos and some statements were released for the three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials to air in 2023.
What follows is a breakdown of the trailer complete with screen shots and information.
It opens with a shot of London highlighting Tower Bridge.
Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant): “I don’t know who I am anymore.”
Doctor getting in taxi: “Allons-y!”
Donna Noble (Catherine Tate): “Sometimes I think there’s something missing — like I had something lovely and it’s gone.”
Doctor: “I don’t believe in destiny but, if destiny exists, then it is heading for Donna Noble.”
Doctor: “If she ever remembers me, she will die!”
Donna: “Skinny man!”
Donna’s mother Sylvia Noble (Jacqueline King): “He’s not there. You can’t see him!”
Donna’s Daughter Rose (Yasmin Finney) moves a box.
Rose encounters a space pod after impact.
Rose has a young friend.
Rose: “Who are they?”
Beep the Meep: “Monsters!”
Yes, it’s a very good bet this unidentified character is Beep the Meep from the Doctor Who and the Star Beast comic. If there’s any further doubt, showrunner Russell T Davies heavily hinted at this on his Instagram post on Christmas — the same day the teaser was released.
You can’t have Beep the Meep without his pursuers the Wrarth Warriors.
And their terrifying claws.
UNIT soldier: “Open Fire!”
UNIT battles the Wrarth Warriors.
Rose’s grandmother Sylvia, father Shaun Temple (Karl Collins) and Rose watch the fire fight.
The Doctor and Donna Noble embrace.
A spaceship is discovered.
Ruth Madely is announced as playing a character named Shirley Anne Bingham.
Neil Patrick Harris, likely playing the Toymaker, causes trouble and chaos.
“The show is just beginning! Worldwide premiere!”
Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa): “[Now,] someone tell me what the hell is going on here!”
Doctor Who will return in November 2023 with three 60th anniversary specials starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor. In the following festive period, Ncuti Gatwa will star in his first full Doctor Who episode as the Fifteenth Doctor.
