Russell T. Davies’ Cucumber is getting a US remake

Another Russell T. Davies show is making the jump across the channel. Or heading back across the channel, depending on which way you look at it.

Russell T. Davies is no stranger to having his work remade in the US, with his groundbreaking series Queer As Folk running for five seasons in its American guise, between 2000 and 2005.

This time it’s his acclaimed 2015 drama, Cucumber. The show is under development with ABC in the States, although a US broadcaster has not yet been confirmed for the show. It’s also undergoing a title change as well. Cucumber will become Adult Behaviour – presumably without a u – when it arrives in America. Cucumber‘s E4 sister show, Banana, is also part of the deal.

Allan Heinberg, who recently worked on the script to the Wonder Woman movie, will be adapting the show. Russell T. Davies is involves too as executive producer, with Betsy Beers and Shonda Rhimes his fellow executive producers on the project.

The story is likely to still centre on a middle aged gay man, played by Vincent Franklin in the UK version, as he makes his way through life, and his relationship with his partner (who was played by Cyril Nri in Cucumber).

It’s coming full circle for Cucumber, too, as originally Davies was working on the show when he was in US at the start of the decade.

There’s no word yet on timescales or casting for Adult Behaviour.
