The BBC is supporting the Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray format, that’s slowly making some headway in the UK too, with a pair of new releases. These follow its earlier releases of Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II.
The premium disc format offers, as its name suggests, 4K transfers of films and TV shows, up to four times the resolution of a Blu-ray release. And in surprise announcements, the BBC is launching a pair of titles in America.
Firstly, there’s Doctor Who, with last year’s Christmas special – Twice Upon A Time – scheduled for 25th September.
Then, the entire first season of Sherlock has also been announced for the 4K release list. It’ll cover the first three episodes of the show, and it’s up for preorder in the US for release on 6th November.
No UK releases have been announced for either thus far. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
