Hot on the heels of The Book of Boba Fett, Disney+ have revealed the start date for the next Star Wars show.
Forsaking the ‘MandoVerse’ era for a while, the next Star Wars show to land on Disney+ will be the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The show will pick up the story of the titular Jedi Knight during his time on Tatooine. After the traumatic events of Revenge of the Sith, which saw his former apprentice Anakin Skywalker fall to the dark side and become Darth Vader, Obi-Wan exiled himself to the desert world with one task: to keep an eye on Anakin’s son Luke. At least, that’s what we thought until now.
Director Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) has described the show as a “dark time” saying:
“Just being a Jedi, it’s not safe. There’s Jedi hunters out there.”
While Ewan McGregor reinforced Obi-Wan’s central mission, saying he “… has one task left, to keep Luke safe.”
That and presumably to slowly morph into Sir Alec Guinness!
As the poster reveals, Obi-Wan Kenobi lands at Disney+ on Wednesday, 25th of May.
Joining Ewan McGregor in the cast is Hayden Christensen, reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in some form. Additionally, Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse are returning to the Star Wars universe as Luke’s Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru.
The wider cast includes Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Indira Varma (Game of Thrones), Rupert Friend (Homeland), O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
The show’s writer is Joby Harold, who executive produces with Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow and Ewan McGregor.
We anticipate a fair amount of buzz around this one. CultBox will endeavour to keep you posted.
