A special Stowaway featurette has been released and the title says it all: Watch This Before You See Stowaway
We’re looking forward to watching Stowaway when it’s released on Netflix (April 22) and now we’ve been provided an extended trailer come mini-documentary. First, here’s the essence of the film’s plot:
The upcoming film follows the crew of a manned mission to Mars as they unexpectedly find their ranks increased by one when a launch support engineer is found trapped in a storage compartment. At first, the trio of scientists attempt to welcome their accidental hitchhiker. However, once it’s clear that they only have enough air for three people, they’ll all have some difficult decisions to make about what they may need to do to survive…
It’s dramatic (as is the video) but we also get a lot of information on how director Joe Penna came to write (with Ryan Morrison) the film, and their previous project Arctic. It turns out Arctic was originally intended to be set on Mars but budget was against them. No such problems now with Stowaway.
There’s also a technically interesting point:
…filmed in the summer of 2019 […] new ways to create the appearance of weightlessness in space, which was important because the characters will endure several stages of gravity shifts as the film progresses…
The Stowaway featurette runs for just over 5 minutes, and we recommend it if you’re still debating whether or not this is for you.
