The Purge, James DeMonaco’s small-screen adaptation of his hit franchise, has been officially renewed for a second series, it’s been confirmed.
The first season finished this week and it’s no surprise that USA Network opted to renew the series on Election Day in the US. Regarding the renewal horror maestro and producer Jason Blum said, “James DeMonaco has done it again: the propulsive and compelling story he created for season one of The Purge truly resonated with audiences in a significant way.”
“We are thrilled to embark on season two and can’t wait to bring more of James’ vision to USA and fans of The Purge.”
In September Blum teased the possibility of the TV and film worlds merging. “We talked about whether we wanted to connect the TV series to the movie, or make it a new Purge world,” he said.
“There are a few easter eggs in this series, but the series is all new characters and in another world where the Purge exists, separate from the movies.
“Eventually, maybe one day, we’ll connect them, but we really invested new characters for the television series.”
