Welcome to the Second Age of Middle-Earth.
It’s been a while since the first teaser, but Prime have dropped a full-length trailer for The Rings of Power. This is ahead of the Tolkien series’ launch on the 2nd of September.
The show plays out in Middle Earth’s fabled Second Age, thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings. It promises kingdoms rising to glory and falling to ruin, the testing of unlikely heroes and the forging of great powers. There’s also the threat of Tolkien’s greatest ever villain who threatens to cover the world in darkness.
Here’s the premise for The Rings of Power:
Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
There’s so much to see in that trailer that superlatives run dry, although it certainly looks impressive. There’s also a dizzying cast of characters introduced, from Harfoots (sort of pre-Hobbits), to Elves, Dwarves and men.
Across the eight-part series we can expect to travel too. From the Elven realms of Lindon and Eregion to the Dwarven realm Khazad-dûm, the Southlands to the Northernmost Wastes, across the Sundering Seas and to the island kingdom of Númenór.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power lands at Prime Video on Friday September the 2nd, with episodes dropping weekly.
