The Umbrella Academy: first trailer for Netflix’s next superhero drama

Based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy is set to be the streaming service’s next big superhero project. Here’s the trailer.

The series and the comic both centre on a group of young people with special abilities. All born on the same day under mysterious circumstances, these kids grow up to have the following codenames within the eponymous Umbrella Academy team: Spaceboy (played by Tom Hopper), The Kraken (David Castañeda), The Rumor (Emmy Raver-Lampman), The Seance (Robert Sheehan), Number Five (Aidan Gallagher), and The White Violin (Ellen Page).

Without further ado, here’s the trailer you’ve come here to see…

And here’s the chunky synopsis that Netflix has released…

On the same day in 1989, forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. But not everything went according to plan. In their teenage years, the family fractured, and the team disbanded. Now, the six surviving thirty-something members reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Vanya, and Number Five work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death. But the estranged family once again begins to come apart due to their divergent personalities and abilities, not to mention the imminent threat of a global apocalypse.

The Umbrella Academy will debut on Netflix on February 15th, and we’ll be sure to bring you more news as we hear it.
