The War Between the Land and the Sea actor Russell Tovey is confident that the Doctor Who spin-off will stream on Disney+ in 2027.
“It’s coming out on Disney+ next year, which I’m excited to see because no one over there has seen it internationally,” Tovey revealed to Radio Times. “It’s definitely happening!”
In the spin-off series, Tovey plays Barclay Pierre-Dupont, an everyman who is thrust into service as an ambassador to humankind when sentient aquatic species emerge from the oceans to demand environmental action.

Tovey didn’t say when in 2027 The War Between the Land and the Sea would stream but this is the first indication of when the series will stream internationally since 31 May 2025 when Disney released the trailer on its Disney Plus YouTube channel with the promise that it was “coming soon to Disney+.”
On 5 December 2025, the BBC stated that the spin-off would stream on Disney+ in “early 2026.” When half of the year went by without the series appearing on the Disney+ schedule, Doctor Who fans were left wondering if the series would ever be shown on Disney+. Notably, Disney hasn’t confirmed Tovey’s statement with any statement of their own.

“It’s taken its time,” Tovey acknowledged. “I’ve never known anything where it’s been this far apart. I remember in the ’90s, you’d go Blockbuster and there’d be a film out in America and you’d have to wait like six months until it come out in the UK, and that wait was unbearable! It feels like we’ve gone back to the ’90s with this. Like, we’ve got it here, and they have to wait.”
There’s no word on the reason for the delay but, with the Disney+ Doctor Who co-production partnership at an end, streaming the spin-off may not be a priority. We will announce more details of when The War Between the Land and the Sea will stream on Disney+ once they become available.
