Three Brit stars are heading for Netflix’s Sabrina

Former Doctor Who, The Office, and Coupling stars will be heading to Netflix’s Riverdale spin-off.

The new Sabrina the Teenage Witch series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which will spin-off from Netflix’s Riverdale later in the year, has recruited Doctor Who’s Michelle Gomez in the role of Mary Wardell. Also starring the new show will be Wonder Woman/The Office-star (and daughter of Jasper Carrot), Lucy Davis as Sabrina’s Aunt Hilda, and Richard Coyle (Hard Sun, Coupling) as ‘High Priest of the Church of Night’, Father Blackwood.

Davis and Gomez seem perfectly suited to their castings. The former will take over the role played by Caroline Rhea in the classic, colourful, 90s Nicklodeon take on the set-up. Gomez, on the other hand, will get to play another of her now-almost-signature multi-faced characters, as she takes on the part of a mousey schoolteacher who is intermittently possessed by Madame Satan and becomes something of the bad influence on the titular central character.

Coyle’s role will be that of an antagonist to Sabrina, who will be played by Kiernan Shipka, in what – if the relationship of Netflix’s Riverdale to the Archie comics that are its source material is anything to go by – is likely to be as night-is-to-day in terms of its resemblance to the TV Sabrina some of us remember.

More on Sabrina as we hear it, then.
