The book promises to be the definitive guide to Peter Cushing’s Dalek films.
Titan Books have announced a new in-depth guide to the two Dalek movies of the 1960s. Adapting the original BBC stories, the films brought the Dalek menace to the big screen in glorious technicolor.
Loved by fans as an alternate take, the films cast Peter Cushing as a decidedly human Dr. Who – an inventor who has made a time machine called TARDIS. Originally released during ‘Dalekmania’, they later became Saturday afternoon television favourites. These days, the films are readily available on Blu-ray and showing regularly on Talking Pictures TV.
The films starred Roberta Tovey as Susan and the second featured Bernard Cribbins as Tom Campbell, years before he played Wilfred Mott.
Here’s the blurb from publisher Titan Books:
Author and film expert John Walsh has unearthed a treasure trove of archive material, interviews and stunning artwork, and takes us through the whole process of translating the metal monsters from small screen to big.
In-depth information on the production, design, casting and special effects is accompanied by full-colour illustrations, including props, posters, and behind-the-scenes photography – making it the perfect gift for fans of the films.
Author John Walsh has previously written books on Escape from New York, Flash Gordon and Ray Harryhausen. He’s also a double BAFTA nominated filmmaker too and his website suggests a forthcoming vodcast series to support the book.
A 160 page hardback with a glorious cover, the book publishes on the 6th of September costing £35 / $50. Ordering details are available on at Titan Books – we’d say it sounds like ideal Christmas present fodder!
Oh, and if you check out the book’s official Facebook page, there’s a chance to win a chance to win a signed first edition too.
