The series, adapted from the award winning novel, comes to Sky and HBO this May.

Long awaited here at CultBox Towers, the first teaser trailer for The Time Traveler’s Wife is finally here.

Starring Rose Leslie (Vigil) and Theo James (Sanditon), the show is a six-part adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s award-winning novel. It charts the relationship between an unwilling time traveller, Henry DeTamble, and his wife Clare Abshire. We may have mentioned it before!

The Time Traveler's Wife - Henry (Theo James) and Clare (Rose Leslie)

Told from the perspective of Clare, the trailer highlights the difficulty of life with someone who can disappear at random:

In the trailer, we get a good sense of the scrapes Henry finds himself in when he travels. As Clare deals with his absences, Henry is on the run, seeing himself at other points in his life… and frequently naked!

In addition to Leslie and James, the cast also includes Desmin Borges as Gomez, and Natasha Lopez as Charisse.

Steven Moffat

For Doctor Who fans, the show has some added interest – it’s adapted by former head writer Steven Moffat. He has emphasised the romantic nature of the story, remarking that “It’s about a time traveller but it’s not science fiction”, before going on to say:

“It uses the prism of time travel to brilliantly rearrange the details of an ordinary, yet very successful, love story. We often do tragic love stories and we often do divorces and we all do the story of how people first got together. These are the things that fiction tends to favor. The thing that we never ever write about is one of the most common phenomena in human history — the perfectly happy marriage.”

Moffat’s Capaldi-era executive producer Brian Minchin is on the team too, producing for Hartswood Films (Sherlock). The series’ director is Game of Thrones‘ David Nutter.

In the UK, The Time Traveler’s Wife will come to Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in May. In the US, it’s on HBO. We’ll update when there’s an airdate announced.
