Will the Downton Abbey movie happen or not? The reports are contradictory.
According to one of the show’s stars, despite all the rumours, the much-anticipated Downton Abbey movie may not be happening. Amid a flurry of rumours to the contrary, Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville appears to have poured a bit of cold water on the idea of the show making it into cinemas.
According to reports, the actor told press at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show that “There is no script that I have read, or any deal in place, for a Downton movie, so I think it is hugely unlikely,” though he did make a point to say that “of course I would love to do it, I think everybody would.”
While that’s not necessarily true, plenty of the cast have been asked about it. What is pretty certain is that fans of the show are keen to see it happen – as is, apparently, its creator, despite already working on a new show called The Gilded Age for NBC.
Rumours went into overdrive early in the new year after comments by Fellowes and reports in the tabloids assuring us that a movie was well along the road to being made. However, it’s become less clear in the time since then what it actually going on. The show’s TV run came to an end with a 2015 Christmas special but, such is the worldwide interest in its characters, it has seemed inevitable that it would make a comeback in some form.
