Four episodes in to Series 8 of Doctor Who and the new Doctor seems to be at a loose end, over analysing himself and possibly finding menace in his own shadow.
In ‘Listen’, we saw him recruit Clara to explore dreams about something under the bed, while she was trying to negotiate a fractious first date with Danny Pink, and were treated to an atmospheric tale full of jumps and scares.
Here are our 10 creepiest moments from the episode…
“The breath on the back of your neck, like your hairs standing on end. That means… don’t look round.”
The missing coffee cup
The word ‘Listen” appears on the chalkboard
The Doctor’s account of that dream and the hand that comes from under the bed: “And you very nearly believe it. You really, really try… and then!”
Clara voices what everyone’s suspected: “Always thought there was something in the pipes.”
“Hello?” If nobody came in the room, who or what is that on the bed?
Seemingly on the strength of a nursery rhyme and his own curiosity, the Doctor unlocks the door
The Doctor lays down the rules: “TARDIS. Now. Do as you are told!”
The noise of atmospheric pressure equalising that sounded suspiciously like a scream
Clara reassures young Rupert and it is working – until something gets on the bed above them: “… and the space under your bed is what’s behind you at night. Simple as that. There’s nothing to be afraid of.”
