British comic book character Bananaman is heading to the stage for the first time in his West End own musical.
Described as “a potassium powered action comedy starring the fruitiest of Superheroes”, Bananaman the Musical is a part parody, part slapstick comedy musical for the whole family.
The BBC’s popular animated series ran between 1983 and 1986. Bananaman first appeared in the Nutty comic in 1980, later joining The Dandy and most recently appearing in The Beano in 2012.
“This is 29 Acacier Road. And this is Eric – the schoolboy who leads an exciting double life. For when Eric eats a banana, an amazing transformation occurs! Eric is Bananaman, ever alert for the call to action!”
The new musical is written by Leon Parris (Wolfboy, The Famous Five and Monte Cristo) and had a successful industry-only preview in London earlier this month.
