‘Doctor Who’ writer Moffat: Cybermen finale is ‘a proper scary one’

Steven Moffat has discussed why he decided to bring back the Cybermen for Doctor Who‘s upcoming two-part finale.

Season 8 will conclude next month with ‘Dark Water’ and ‘Death in Heaven’, guest starring comedians Sanjeev Bhaskar and Chris Addison, alongside Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart and Ingrid Oliver as Osgood.

The finale is the first two-part story since ‘The Rebel Flesh’ and ‘The Almost People’ in 2011.

Moffat told Doctor Who Magazine in the new issue: “I really wanted to do a Cyberman story, because they were always my favourites when I was a kid, and I was quite surprised that one way or another I’d never used them in any of my own scripts, except as supporting characters.”

He teased: “So I wanted to do a proper scary one…”

The writer previously hinted: “In the mysterious world of the Nethersphere, plans have been drawn. Old friends and old enemies manoeuvre around The Doctor, and an impossible choice is looming over him.”

Doctor Who continues this weekend with ‘Flatline’.
