Big Finish Productions – the British company that has already produced audio drama versions of Doctor Who, Torchwood, Class, Captain Scarlet and The Prisoner – has announced its first Star Trek project.

Big Finish has adapted Star Trek: Prometheus, a trilogy of novels by Christian Humberg and Bernd Perplies, into a trilogy of audiobooks.  The books were originally published in German, and they centre on Captain Richard Adams and the USS Prometheus.

Big Finish has even secured some on-screen Star Trek talent to narrate the series, with Star Trek: Enterprise‘s Malik actor – Alec Newman – signing up to narrate all three audiobooks.

The first two chunks of this audiobook trilogy are available to buy now, and the third instalment will follow in December. The cover art looks like this…

And the synopsis reads thusly…

“The Federation races to discover the culprits of several terrorist attacks, sending their flagship, the USS Prometheus, to stop war breaking out in the galaxy.

“A mysterious terrorist organisation has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the Alpha Quadrant’s powers as little more than conquering tyrants.

“The Federation are desperate to prevent more bloodshed, and have sent their most powerful warship, the USS Prometheus, into the Cluster to investigate the threat before all-consuming war breaks out.”
