The highly regarded Hulu TV series The Handmaid’s Tale will now show over here on terrestrial TV.

Channel 4 today announced that it has will show the acclaimed US drama series The Handmaid’s Tale. Starring Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella, and Yvonne Strahovski, it will premier on UK screens later this month.

Based on the classic Margaret Atwood novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale is dystopian story is based in Gilead, a totalitarian society formerly part of the United States. As birth rates plunge, Offred (Moss) is a ‘Handmaid’ is one of the few remaining fertile women, and part of a caste forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt at repopulation.

The 10-part series was created for television by Bruce Miller (The 100), who serves as the series’ showrunner, and was very well received across the Atlantic when it premiered on the subscription-only streaming service.

The book was the subject of a 1990 movie, adapted by Harold Pinter for the screen, directed by Volker Schlöndorff, and starring Natasha Richardson and Faye Dunaway, no less. Miller’s adaptation, by all accounts, appears to bring plenty of new ideas to the table for modern TV audiences, though.
