Here are some of the things we’d like to see when Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman return to our screens later this year…
Paul McGann
The Eighth Doctor’s surprise return in ‘The Night of the Doctor’ was a thing of pure, giddy joy; so why does it have to end there?
Imagine acerbic, cutting, grumpy Capaldi sparring with the more romantic, openly heroic McGann! We can see Clara’s head being turned by this more straight forward version of the Doctor and Capaldi having to step up his game to show her who’s top Doctor. It could be marvellous.
Ice Warriors en masse
When Mark Gatiss brought back the green, lisping giants from Mars in his 2013 episode ‘Cold War’, I can’t have been alone in thinking it was a ‘Dalek’-like soft intro to a classic villain that would lead on to their return en masse in a future episode.
But… it hasn’t happened yet. So come on, I want to see the green meanies back in force, rather than yet another Cyberman/Dalek run-around! How about them teaming up with those other buggers from Mars, the Flood, and causing unholy carnage?
A Halloween episode
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, which feels like the perfect excuse for Doctor Who to bring out the pumpkins and try its first ever Halloween-themed episode.
A spooky period ghost story from Mark Gatiss perhaps?
Online minisodes
Speaking of Eight, the unexpected release of McGann’s return during the show’s 50th anniversary made the internet explode, and lead to Moffat saying that there would be more online specials in the works.
But then… nothing. Perhaps they’ve been taking their time to make sure the next one is as special as ‘Night of the Doctor’, not something small and throwaway? And what better way to mark ten years of modern Who than with some short specials released online, full of shameless fan service?
Perhaps this would be the ideal place for another McGann return? Or for appearances by old companions and lesser know classic villains?
