The Mad Men star reprises his role as Heaven’s second-in-command.
As production continues on the second coming of Good Omens, Amazon Studios have confirmed a number of guest stars, led by the angelic Jon Hamm.
The former Mad Men star is to reprise his role as the Archangel Gabriel, joined by the heavenly coterie of Michael, played by Doon Mackichan (Toast) and Uriel, played by Gloria Obianyo (Dune).
Additionally, Saraqael, played by Liz Carr (Devs) and Muriel, played by Quelin Sepulveda, have been added to his heavenly throng.
Remaining tight-lipped about her character’s name, Amazon Studios have also revealed that Shelly Conn (Bridgerton, The Irregulars) has also been cast too. Although they do admit she plays a “key character from Hell”.
The Co-Showrunners
Neil Gaiman, who is writer and co-showrunner for the series, said:
“Good Omens 2 just would not be the same without the astonishing Jon Hamm as Gabriel, everyone’s worst boss. The story that Terry Pratchett and I created all those years ago continues to take us from London’s Soho into Heaven and Hell. It’s a delight for me to bring back characters we loved (or hated) and bring in new characters, from the shiniest top floors of Heaven to the dankest basements of Hell, to love (or to hate, or to love to hate or hate to love). All of them are part of the strange and unusually beloved family of Good Omens.”
Douglas Mackinnon, the director and co-showrunner added:
“I couldn’t be happier that Jon has come back to do more Good Omens as the Archangel Gabriel, who is second in command in Heaven. He joins us nearly halfway through production, when we have already welcomed to the Good Omens 2 family familiar faces in familiar roles, familiar faces in unfamiliar roles, and unfamiliar faces in unfamiliar roles. We also have an unfamiliar face in a familiar role.”
Getting back to easy living…
A surprise to many, Good Omens 2 will continue story which began (and was assumed finished) in the adaptation of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s novel. This series will see the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) getting back to easy living amongst humans with the Apocalypse thwarted. Until an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery, that is.
Neil Gaiman and John Finnemore write this second series, drawing on ideas for an unwritten sequel to the original novel. It is a co-production between Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation and Narrativia. Neil Gaiman continues as co-showrunner along with Douglas Mackinnon. Both will executive produce, as well as Rob Wilkins, John Finnemore and BBC Studios Productions’ Head of Comedy Josh Cole.
Good Omens 2 will appear on Prime TV to begin with, and then on the BBC some months later.
When we hear of dates, we’ll let you know.
