Netflix have revealed details of their upcoming thriller Out of the Dust, from writer Julie Geary (Intergalactic).
The six-part series promises to take us behind the doors of a controversial religious sect, with Molly Windsor playing Rosie – a young woman who is propelled into a dangerous journey of female emancipation and sexual awakening following a fateful encounter with escaped convict Sam (Fra Free).
Here’s the synopsis for Out of the Dust:
Out of the Dust is a six-episode psychological thriller. It follows Rosie, who lives in a cloistered Christian community with her husband, Adam (Butterfield), and their daughter. The fateful arrival of the mysterious Sam, an escaped prisoner, reveals the reality and restraints of Rosie’s world. Perhaps her hidden religious community doesn’t have her best interests at heart.
As the cracks begin to appear in Rosie and Adam’s marriage, Sam presents as Rosie’s savior. But with his dark criminal past, where does the greatest danger lie — with the cult, or with Sam?
Asa Butterfield (Sex Education) plays Adam, with Christopher Eccleston (Dodger) as Mr Phillips and Siobhan Finneran (Time) playing Mrs Phillips.
The series, which comes from Double Dutch has already begun filming in the UK. The directors are Jim Loach (Criminal Record) and Philippa Langdale (A Discovery of Witches). Executive producers are Iona Vrolyk and Myar Craig-Brown (Double Dutch Productions) and Julie Gearey.
We’ll keep you posted.
