As the BBC Group’s annual report and accounts for 2025/2026 was presented to Parliament today, BBC Director General Matt Brittin gave assurances that the BBC is working hard on the future of Doctor Who.
According the Deadline, Brittin said of Doctor Who:
“That’s a show that has regenerated multiple times in its 60-plus year history, and we’ll do so again.
“I think that’s one of the great things about the 100-year history of the BBC. We can do that, and we can creatively renew shows that people love, and we’ll be working hard on that right now.”

The focus of the BBC’s work right now is forming the parameters for its formal Invitation To Tender (ITT), a “work-for-hire” procurement document specifying editorial capability, operational and business requirements, costs analysis, and administrative and procedural requirements for production companies to submit a bid to make Doctor Who.
The BBC announced its intention to post the Doctor Who ITT on June 10, 2026, with a plan to offer the tender some time “this year”, with the details announced “in due course.”
