The first Citadel spin-off is the Italian series Citadel: Diana starring Matilda De Angelis.
Last year, Prime Video’s glossy spy series Citadel landed on our screens.
Fronted by Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra, it provided high-octane thrills and spills with the tale of a secret organisation whose former agents needed reawakening.
At the time, we understood that this was the first salvo of an expansive (and expensive) international franchise. Indeed, the first teaser for Citadel: Diana dropped as the main series ended.
Now, the 6-part Italian set show has a premiere on 10th October 2024.
Here’s the synopsis for Citadel: Diana
Milan, 2030: Eight years ago, the independent global spy agency Citadel was destroyed by the powerful enemy syndicate, Manticore. Since then, Diana Cavalieri (Matilda De Angelis), an undercover Citadel agent, is alone, trapped behind enemy lines as a mole in Manticore. When she finally sees a way out and the chance to disappear forever, the only way to do so is trusting the most unexpected ally, Edo Zani (Lorenzo Cervasio), the heir of Manticore Italy and son of the head of the Italian organization, Ettore Zani (Maurizio Lombardi), who’s vying for leadership against the other European families.
Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing) fronts the show. She’s joined by an internation cast which includes Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardi, Julia Piaton, Thekla Reuten, Giordana Faggiano, Daniele Paoloni, Bernhard Schütz and Filippo Nigro.
Citadel: Diana comes from Alessandro Fabbri, who wrote the series with Ilaria Bernardini, Gianluca Bernardini, Laura Colella and Giordana Mari. The director is Arnaldo Catinari.
The Citadel Spyverse
Following Citadel: Diana, the franchise continues with an Indian series Citadel: Honey Bunny – yes it’s really called that. Plus, there’s a second series of the main show in the works.
We’ll keep you posted on all things Citadel.
