Colin Firth joins Guy Ritchie’s Young Sherlock series

The series promises an explosive re-imagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved consulting detective.

Further to May’s announcement of a Young Sherlock series, Variety have dropped news that Colin Firth is joining the cast.

The Prime Video series, based on Andrew Lane’s novels, will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the title role. Guy Ritchie is directing, with the series coming from writer Matthew Parkhill.

At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.

The Kingsman star is taking on the role of Sir Bucephalus Hodge, although whether he is friend or foe remains to be seen.

Also announced are Joseph Fiennes (Dear England) and Natascha McElhone (The Crown) as Sherlock’s parents. Plus, Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem) who will play Princess Gulun Shou’an.

Also in the works from Colin Firth is the drama Lockerbie, for Sky & Peacock. The 5-part series tells the story of the 1988 disaster and the subsequent quest for justice. Firth leads the drama playing the real-life figure of Dr Jim Swire, on who’s book the series is based.
