With Doctor Who series 10 complete, and this year’s Christmas special filming, the Steven Moffat era of the show is finally drawing to a close. Once Moffat is done and dusted, the job of steering the Doctor’s adventures falls to Chris Chibnall, and as reported in Doctor Who Magazine, he’s admitted that he took his time before deciding to accept the job.
“I finally said yes because I love the show to my bones”, he said, adding that the BBC “really had to woo me”.
He also added that “in the end, I had ideas about what I wanted to do with it. When I went to them and said ‘this is what I would do’, I actually expected them to say ‘oooh, let’s talk about that’, but they said ‘great’.
The report came from the Royal Television Society interview with Chibnall, here.
With the thus-far unnamed Christmas special now filming, an announcement is expected shortly as to the identity of Chibnall’s choice for the 13th Doctor. Rumour suggests that they’ll be an extended gap between series 10 and series 11 – perhaps an extra six months – to allow Chibnall to get up and running. That hasn’t been confirmed, though.
The new issue of Doctor Who Magazine is on sale now.
