We’re just under a month away from Peter Capaldi’s final outing in the TARDIS, as he hands over the Doctor Who mantle to Jodie Whittaker in Twice Upon A Time. This year’s Yuletide special is set to test the tear ducts given that it bids farewell to Capaldi.
But according to Jo Whiley, who’s made a behind the scenes documentary about the episode for Radio 2, it’s not just the regeneration scene that’s going to break people.
Chatting to the Radio Times, she said that “the day before there was a scene that they had to film, and everyone said everyone was in tears. Because of the poignancy of the scene that they were filming, which had less to do with the Doctor himself and more to do with the storyline. And everyone was in pieces”, adding “when you watch the Christmas Day episode, you’ll understand”.
“It’s really very very clever, and very laced with emotion”, Whiley teased. “It was less to do with the departure of the Doctor and more to do with the storyline”.
Intriguing. Doctor Who: Twice Upon A Time is expected to go out at 5.30pm – or thereabouts – on Christmas day.
