The Doctor Who spin-off series, The War Between the Land and the Sea, will film on location in Mallorca in October, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin.
Palma Pictures, a full production service company in Spain and Portugal, will assist with the filming.
A part of Spain, Mallorca is located in the Balearic Islands off the east coast of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. The exact locations of the filming are not yet known but it is likely the film crew will take advantage of the warm climate and ocean water to film The War Between the Land and the Sea because the spin-off features fictional humanoid sea creatures known as Sea Devils.
“What happens when the Doctor isn’t in town? That’s what this show is about,” Davies revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. “How does the world cope? And so we’ve got a five-part spin-off coming called The War Between the Land and the Sea which is the story of the Sea Devils from Doctor Who, which were creatures from 1972. There’s a race that lives beneath the oceans. They wake up and they see the state of the oceans that we that we have put it in. We have wrecked the place and it is war and it’s war on an epic scale. It’s going to tremendous. It’s got a tremendous cast.”
The five-part series stars Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who lead the cast of the new spin-off series, alongside fellow Doctor Who alumni Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, Ruth Madeley and Colin McFarlane.
The series is created by Doctor Who showrunner and executive producer Russell T Davies, who has co-written the series with Pete McTighe. All five episodes are directed by Dylan Holmes Williams, who filmed the 2024 Doctor Who episodes 73 Yards and Dot and Bubble
