It’s a race against time to find the TARDIS before sundown in the second episode of Doctor Who Series 11, The Ghost Monument, filmed partly in South Africa.
The Doctor and her friends meet the last two competitors in the Twelve Galaxies Space Rally when they are marooned on an arid, sandy, deserted planet named Desolation.
The Doctor is convinced that the TARDIS is at the finish line of the race. When the Doctor and her friends fail to reach the mountains before the sun goes down, they must face the Remnants, the terrifying creatures that wiped out the planet’s population.
Do they find the TARDIS? I think they do. The TARDIS prop was brought to South Africa for filming. Timeslice Cinematography, a company that provided aerial filming services for the South Africa production, posted a photo of the TARDIS prop on Facebook on the top of one of the sand dunes featured in the episode.
They posted this photo as well, taken at Macassar Beach Pavilion, an abandoned water park on the coast, just outside Cape Town. The Remnants?
The new TARDIS interior will likely be revealed in The Ghost Monument as well. A publication called Doctor Who: TARDIS Type 40 Instruction Manual is due to be released on October 18, four days after The Ghost Monument airs. The publication includes photos of the console interior of the thirteenth Doctor’s TARDIS.
The Ghost Monument airs on Sunday, October 14, 6:55 p.m. on BBC One and 8:00 p.m. on BBC America.
