Firefly Lane

Firefly Lane tops Bridgerton in the latest Nielsen ratings

Posted Filed under

The Nielsen’s for the week 1-7 February are out and Firefly Lane has taken the top spot from Bridgerton. As ever there’s more to talk about in the details

Last week we predicted Bridgerton would soon drop from the #1 position, and this week the data shows they’ve been handsomely beaten by Firefly Lane. The original data is available from Nielsen, what follows has been analysed by our elite team of number crunchers using the upgraded mainframe at Cultbox Castle. They’ve done so well we let them take a break to watch the season finale of WandaVision.

The data

(CultBox added columns marked with ‘*’)

Rank Streamer Series # Episodes Ep length (mins)* Total Minutes (Millions) Season Watches*
1 Netflix Firefly Lane 10 50 1308 2,616,000
2 Netflix Bridgerton 8 60 659 1,372,917
3 Disney+ WandaVision 5 40 589 2,945,000
4 Netflix The Crown 40 60 305 127,083
5 Netflix Longmire 63 60 296 78,307
6 Netflix Cobra Kai 30 30 296 328,889
7 Netflix The Great British Baking Show 65 75 266 54,564
8 Netflix Go Dog Go 9 24 257 1,189,815
9 Netflix Fate: The Winx Saga 6 50 256 853,333
10 Netflix Blown Away 20 25 242 484,000

Whatever way you spin the data, it’s a fantastic result for Firefly Lane dominating in both total minutes and doing very well on our season watches proxy figure. Bridgerton is down from #1 to #2 on Nielsen’s analysis, whereas we already had them narrowly in fourth place.

Firefly Lane has benefited (we believe) from being dropped in one go and maybe filling the need for a new romance, with many fans of that genre already having watched Bridgerton. Whatever the reason, it clocked up double the number of minutes and almost the same ratio of season watches as the Regency romcom. As ever, though, we’d like to draw attention to one of our favourites, WandaVision. It’s still the only Disney+ title in the Nielsen top 10 (up from #5 to #3), and on our season watches number, it’s now the number one show. Last week Fate: Winx Saga was our number one show; we actually think WandaVision may still improve as more episodes drop week by week (this list was from the mid-season point).

We wonder what next week’s figures will show us — until then do let us know how useful this analysis is in the comments.
