The new official Doctor Who promotional photo (above) has revealed some additions to the set of the TARDIS.

The current TARDIS set was introduced in 2012’s Christmas special, ‘The Snowmen’, by production designer Michael Pickwoad.

At the time he explained: “There was a desire that a new TARDIS should be much more technical and be darker and moodier than before, along with a sense that this machine can fly.”

A closer look at Series 8’s new promotional photo shows that several props have been added to the set for Peter Capaldi’s first series, including picture frames on the walls, a bookcase, an alarm clock, a blackboard easel and stacks of books on the floor.

Series 8 will begin on BBC One on Saturday 23 August with a feature-length premiere episode entitled ‘Deep Breath’.
