‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Last Tango in Halifax’ nominated for LGBT awards

Doctor Who‘s ‘Deep Breath’ episode has been nominated at this year’s GLAAD Media Awards for its inclusion of Madame Vastra and Jenny.

Season 8’s opener is up for ‘Best Individual Episode’ at the annual ceremony, which aims to recognise and honour representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in the media.

BBC One’s Last Tango in HalifaxGame of Thrones and BBC America’s Orphan Black are nominated in the ‘Outstanding Drama Series’ category, up against Degrassi, The Fosters, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Masters of Sex, Pretty Little Liars and Shameless.

ITV’s Vicious, starring Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi, will take on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Glee, Looking, Modern Family, Orange Is the New Black and Transparent for the ‘Outsanding Comedy Series’ award.

The winners will be revealed on 21 March in Los Angeles and on 9 May in New York.

Benedict Cumberbatch The Imitation Game

Sherlock stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott will also go head to head for the ‘Outstanding Film – Wide Release’ award, with Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game and Pride up against The Skeleton Twins, Tammy and Love Is Strange.
