It was revealed in Doctor Who Magazine 598 that the Doctor Who Christmas special, The Church on Ruby Road, will feature a musical number, as reported by TV Zone.
The special is said to feature a “show-stopping musical number” featuring Ncuti Gatwa, Millie Gibson and a cast of goblins — composed by Murray Gold with lyrics by Russell T. Davies. Davies describes it as a “massive musical big band number with music-loving goblins.”
Nothing in any synopsis previously announced on The Church on Ruby Road gave any indication that the Doctor and his companion would join baby-stealing goblins for a song and dance but this is Christmas and apparently anything can happen.
This is our summary of synopses released so far:
The Doctor comes face-to-face with the mythical and mysterious goblins as his life collides with Ruby Sunday. Ruby meets a man called the Doctor, stolen babies and goblins as she attempts to learn the secret of her birth. Little is known about Ruby as she was abandoned long ago in the snow on Christmas Eve 2004 as a baby. Now living with her mum Carla and grandmother Cherry, Ruby’s world is about to be turned upside when she encounters the Doctor and the two set off on their first adventure together. Ruby’s life will never be the same.
TV Zone also reported that, according to DWM, the track of this musical number will be available on streaming services for fans to listen and download.
The Church on Ruby Road will be available on 25 December exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Ireland at 5:55pm BT and exclusively on Disney+ outside the UK and Ireland.
A new 8-episode Doctor Who series starring Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson will debut in Spring of 2024 followed by the 2024 festive special later in the year.
Doctor Who Magazine 598 is on sale Thursday 7 December from Panini and WH Smith in the UK and is also available as a digital edition from Pocketmags.
