A new rumour suggests Doctor Who may move to Sunday nights in the autumn, to avoid Strictly Come Dancing…
When Doctor Who series 11 kicks off later this year, Jodie Whittaker will be taking control of whatever state the TARDIS is in, for a run of ten episodes. Those episodes are well into production, overseen by new showrunner Chris Chibnall.
But when will those episodes be screened? We know the show is returning in the autumn, but also, The Mirror is now suggesting that the BBC is looking to possibly shift the show from its current Saturday night slot to a Sunday instead.
This is seemingly in response to live ratings, and presumably the fact that a growing proportion of the Doctor Who audience comes from catch-up viewings. But also, the BBC has to schedule the show around Strictly Come Dancing when it’s on in the autumn, and The Mirror – not always the most reliable source on stories such as this – reckons that a move to Sunday is being considered.
There’s been no word from the BBC on this, as you might expect, and there’s a good sporting chance it’s just tabloid tittle tattle. We’ll find out in due course…
