The producers of the James Bond franchise have shot down plans for a Broadway musical based on Ian Fleming’s secret agent.
Merry Saltzman, the daughter of original 007 film producer Harry Saltzman, revealed plans last week for James Bond: The Musical.
An official statement on 007.com says: “Danjaq LLC and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc confirm they have not licensed any rights to Merry Saltzman or her production company to create a James Bond musical. Danjaq and MGM jointly control all live stage rights in the Bond franchise, and therefore no James Bond stage show may be produced without their permission.”
James Bond: The Musical was expected to open on Broadway or Las Vegas in late 2017 or early 2018.
The show would reportedly feature “several Bond villains, plus some new ones” as well as introducing “our own Bond girl.”
